Zoloft death can be the result of the serious side effects associated with this selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) anti-depressant medication. Zoloft death is the most extreme consequence of the severe adverse effects of Zoloft use or withdrawal.

Zoloft is a prescription medication that was approved by the FDA in 1992 to treat depression, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Paradoxically, this drug can actually worsen the symptoms of these psychological conditions, putting patients at risk for Zoloft death.

Clinical studies have shown that Zoloft use and the adverse symptoms of a Zoloft withdrawal puts a patient at risk of Zoloft death. Zoloft death is a threat because patients are at risk for suffering suicidal and homicidal thoughts and actions. Reports of Zoloft death at the hands of Zoloft use prompted the FDA to conduct a thorough investigation of the side effects associated with this medication. Their findings indicated that the risk of Zoloft death by suicide increased by at least three percent in the pediatric population.

Because of this serious risk of Zoloft death, the FDA ordered Pfizer, Zoloft’s maker, to include a “black box” warning on all patient product information. The black box is the FDA’s strongest warning system, intended to warn consumers about the serious risks associated with an FDA-regulated product.

Zoloft death, whether homicidal or suicidal in nature, can be the outcome of adverse psychological side effects of Zoloft use. Zoloft has been proven to cause the following side effects: anxiety, panic attacks, hostility, agitation, aggression, depersonalization, insomnia, impulsivity, and mania including hallucinations and delusions. When a patient suffers these side effects of Zoloft use, they are potentially at risk for become the victim of Zoloft death.

Akathisia is another serious side effect of Zoloft use or withdrawal that has been shown to be a pre-cursor to Zoloft death. Akathisia is characterized by extreme agitation and motor restlessness. Patients who experience this serious condition often lose self control and are unable to sit still. Individuals who have experienced akathisia describe it as an intense desire to jump out of their skin. Many doctors believe it is this condition which often leads to Zoloft death.

Despite the serious risk of Zoloft death, whether by suicide or homicide, Zoloft’s manufacturer has failed to take any steps to protect the health and lives of their consumers. Warning labels can serve as a cautionary tool but are ineffective at preventing Zoloft death and other serious side effects associated with this medication.
