The Zimmer Durom cup is a component used as part of hip replacement surgery. It is a hip implant component whose surface is affixed into the socket of the hip to secure the femur component into place. Each component works with the other to recreate the natural movement and range of motion of the hip joint in those who suffer with arthritis or have experienced an injury that has damaged the hip enough to require a hip replacement.
Surgeons have used the Zimmer Durom cup in the hip replacement surgeries of several thousands of patients. Though the initial x-rays performed post-surgery showed no sign of problems, soon patients began to complain of pain. Upon further examination with x-rays, the physicians determined that the cup was not adhering to the bone and was coming loose or migrating around the socket.
As one can imagine, this must have caused enormous pain for the patient, who had thought that their days of suffering were behind them. Doctors surmised that the surface of the cup did not allow it to adhere to the bone surface firm enough to stay in the specified position permanently. The patients had to have a second, this time corrective, hip surgery to remove the faulty device and reverse any damage of the first surgery.
When a reputable surgeon brought this to the attention of Zimmer, the manufacturer of the product, they voluntarily stopped selling the product, though they issued no recall on the Zimmer Dorum cup.
Several lawsuits, nationwide, have been filed on behalf of patients who have been injured by a defective Zimmer Durom cup. Plaintiffs are seeking compensation for the cost of the hip replacement surgery and other financial losses.
If you or someone you have has suffered from a defective Zimmer Durom cup, it is important to consult a lawyer familiar with cases involving defective medical devices. An experienced attorney can help you recover the compensation you need and deserve.
