Yaz Birth Control Heart Attack

The Yaz birth control–heart attack link is of concern to the women who take this contraceptive, the physicians and other healthcare providers who prescribe it and the manufacturer of Yaz, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals. As is true of any combined-hormone oral contraceptive, there is an increased risk of heart attack among the users of Yaz birth control (which contains the two hormones drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) compared to women who don't use such medications.

Don't Take Yaz If You Smoke

Chest discomfort or pain — the majority of (but not all) heart attacks induce an uncomfortable feeling or pain in the center of the chest. It may feel like fullness, or being squeezed, or just pressure or pain. The feeling may last for many minutes, or it may go away and then come back again.
Discomfort or pain in another area of the body such as one or both arms, the neck, jaw, back or abdomen
Shortness of breath
Breaking out in a cold sweat
Nausea, vomiting
Lightheadedness
