Known generically as drospirenone, Yaz is an oral contraceptive medication produced by Bayer HealthCare. It has been FDA approved since 2006. When taken within four hours of the same time each day, Yaz claims to be up to 99.9 percent effective at preventing women from becoming pregnant. Along with Yaz, Bayer HealthCare also produces another drospirenone birth control pill known as Yasmin (Ocella).
