Dangers of Yaz

Known generically as drospirenone, Yaz is an oral contraceptive medication produced by Bayer HealthCare. It has been FDA approved since 2006. When taken within four hours of the same time each day, Yaz claims to be up to 99.9 percent effective at preventing women from becoming pregnant. Along with Yaz, Bayer HealthCare also produces another drospirenone birth control pill known as Yasmin (Ocella). FDA approved in 2001, Yasmin contains 10mcg more of ethinyl estradiol (a bio-active hormone) than Yaz.

Dangers of Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella

Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella have all been reported to cause a number of severe side effects that, in the worst cases, can be fatal. It's crucial that women taking Yaz discuss their medical histories with their doctor before starting a course of this birth control. Should women choose to start taking Yaz, it will then be essential that they take the time to fully understand the risk factors and associated symptoms of serious Yaz side effects.

Is Yaz Dangerous?

In most cases, Yaz birth control pills will cause mild, passing and easily treatable side effects, which may include:

bloating
breast pain
changes in menstruation and/or spotting between cycles
darkening of facial skin
freckling
increased hair growth
loss of scalp hair
problems with contact lenses
vaginal itching and/or discharge
