Despite the fact that Yasmin® is known to cause serious diseases and there are more than 2,600 lawsuits pending, including five class action lawsuits in both the U.S. (three class action suits) and Canada (two class action suits), this birth control pill remains on the market. A recall has not yet been issued for Yasmin®.

Yasmin® may put certain users at risk of serious side effects, some of which can be fatal. Side effects of Yasmin® include:

• Heart Attack
• Stroke
• Blood Clots
• Pulmonary embolism
• Deep vein thrombosis
• Birth defects in the fetus

The older a woman is who takes Yasmin® and smokes, the greater her chances are of having blood clots. These can lead to a heart attack, a pulmonary embolism or stroke.

All of the above side effects are life threatening. Neither the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), nor Bayer, the manufacturer of Yasmin®, have yet recalled Yasmin®.

Who is at Risk of Yasmin® Side Effects?

If a woman has any of the following diseases or conditions, she should not use Yasmin®:

• A close family member who has had breast cancer
• Gallstones
• Women aged 35 and older
• Heart failure
• Women with a parent, brother, or sister who has had a stroke caused by a blood clot or a heart attack before age 45
• Smokers
• Obesity
• Liver disease
• Compromised kidney function
• Migraines
• High blood pressure
• Varicose veins
• Sickle cell disease
• Severe depression
• Inflammatory bowel disease
• Liver disease
• Heart failure
• Pregnant or are breast feeding
• Porphyrias
• Jaundice
• Systemic lupus erythematosus
• Blood disorders that increase the risk of blood clots
• Hemolytic urea syndrome
• Angina
• Heart valve disease
• Atrial fibrillation
• High blood pressure
• High cholesterol
• Kidney failure
• Jaundice
