Yasmin® lawsuits are being investigated on behalf of women who claim they have been harmed by the birth control pill. The combined oral contraceptive (COC) is, reportedly, causing hundreds of cases of serious medical injuries and deaths.

Yasmin® Class Action And Individual Lawsuits

More than 2,600 lawsuits are pending against Bayer, the manufacturer of Yasmin®. Five class action lawsuits are pending against the drug maker — three in the U.S. and two in Canada.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is one of the most critical side effects of Yasmin®. Research has proven that DVT is a life-threatening risk for women who take this birth control pill. DVT, which usually forms in a vein deep in the thigh, but can form in a deep vein in the arm or elsewhere in the body, is the formation of a blood clot that has the potential to travel through the blood stream and block blood flow to the body’s major organs, putting the life of a woman in grave danger.

The most common course these blood clots follow is to the lungs. A traveling blood clot that blocks blood flow to the lungs is a pulmonary embolism and a life-threatening emergency. It is essential that a patient who has a pulmonary embolism call 911 and seek immediate medical treatment.

Symptoms of a pulmonary embolism include sudden breathlessness. Other signs that someone has a blood clot blocking the lungs include:

• Sudden chest pain
• Coughing up blood in the phlegm
• A feeling of discomfort, nervousness and anxiety

These symptoms can clear up and pass if the embolism breaks up on its own. But, if a large embolism blocks blood flow to the lungs, the more serious symptoms will include:

• Sudden onset
• Paleness and a cold sweat
• Possible loss of consciousness
• Death if medical care is not given quickly

Yasmin® also is known to cause clots that can prevent blood flow to the heart, precipitating a heart attack, or to the brain, causing a stroke.

Other serious problems or conditions that have been linked to Yasmin® include:

• Heart valve disorders
• Kidney or liver disease
• Breast, uterine, or other type of hormone-dependent cancer
• Gallbladder disease
• Diabetes
• Seizures
• Depression
• High blood pressure
