Wright Medical Technology is a manufacturer of hip implants. In the past they have had several problems involving the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), including a 2004 Wright hip implant recall due to manufacturing defect. In 2010 Wright paid the FDA a $7.9 Million fine for using illegal kickbacks given to doctors for improperly recommending its orthopaedics implants.
Recently it is has come to light in medical studies and a pending lawsuit that there may be another Wright hip implant, which is defective and may be subject to recall. The Wright Medical Profemur® Hip System may have dangerous problems with its modular neck design.
If you have received a Wright hip implant and have had pain or other problems, you should consider speaking with an attorney about your ability to seek compensation. Contact a hip implant lawyer for more information.
The design of the Profemur® Hip System called for innovative technology including a modular neck which adjusted for different leg lengths. Unfortunately, this system was not tested extensively before being implanted in the general public, and the new design appears to have a serious flaw causing it to bend. This in turn causes premature wear and fatigue in the wright hip implant, which can eventually lead to failure of the device.
The plaintiff in a pending lawsuit claims that the modular component broke on his implant and resulted in catastrophic failure. In addition to severe pain and being subjected to revision surgery, the plaintiff claims that the failure led to permanent injury and disfigurement.
An Australian medical study also found significant problems with the Profemur® Hip System . According to the study, 11 percent of recipients needed premature revision surgery.
There are several symptoms to indicate you may have a defective hip implant. These can include:
These symptoms may indicate that you are experiencing hip implant side effects. Side effects can include infection, blood clots, dislocations and inflammation. If you begin to experience any combination of these symptoms, you should see your doctor right away.
If you are experiencing symptoms that lead you to believe your wright hip implant is defective you should immediately contact one of our experienced hip implant attorneys. Wright medical may have acted in a negligent manner by marketing a new technology without testing it significantly.
You may be eligible to file an individual hip implant lawsuit. Lawsuits involving defective hip implants are complicated cases that require the skill and experience only a hip implant lawyer can offer. For more information, please contact us today.
