In October 2007, the Food and Drug Administration added a new warning to the labeling of Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra regarding reports of sudden hearing loss in some men who used one of the drugs. All three belong to a class of drugs used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). Cases of Hearing Loss Reported
The FDA began searching its adverse event reporting database when the Journal of Laryngology & Otology published a case study in April 2007. The journal article discussed the case of a man who experienced sudden hearing loss after taking Viagra, and the FDA decided it needed to investigate further.
According to the FDA, there have been 29 reports of hearing loss in men taking Viagra or other ED drug. Among those, one third were temporary and most occurred in only one ear. Some of the men also experienced ringing in the ears, a condition known as tinnitus, and dizziness.
Men who experience a decrease in hearing or sudden hearing loss after taking Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra are urged to stop taking the drug and seek prompt medical attention.

Revatio is a hypertension drug that contains the same ingredient as Viagra, and as a result, it will also carry the new hearing loss warning. However, patients taking Revatio should not discontinue use of the drug but should consult a doctor if they experience hearing loss or other hearing problems.
