Millions are affected by the three recent Toyota recalls. The recalls dealt with three issues that may or may not have been related. The first recall concerned ill-fitting floor mats, the second a faulty accelerator, and the third faulty hybrid anti-lock brake software. However, the issue that received the most attention was the sudden unintended acceleration issues.
The key factor behind the first two recalls, sudden unintended acceleration, received the most attention and is a suspect in many accidents. Sudden acceleration is alleged in deadly accidents in which the driver claims the vehicle sped out of control and he/she couldn’t do anything to stop it.
There is some debate as to what is causing sudden acceleration in popular Toyota models. The automaker claims it has fixed the problem by recalling vehicles for sticky accelerator pedals and/or faulty floor mats. Some disagree.
