The magazine Consumer Reports writes it "has suspended" its recommendation of certain models of Toyota vehicles until the company fixes the problem of unintended sudden acceleration reported by drivers. Drivers are reporting incidents of cars speeding up, even when they apply the brakes, and gas pedals sticking in a depressed position.

In addition, the acceleration problems occurred in models not on the recall lists.
For example, the magazine pointed out that the car company recalled the 2007-2010 models of the Camry. But, the magazine's researchers say they discovered 25 instances of problems in the 2005-2006 Camrys.
Toyota blames mechanical problems—sticky gas pedals and trouble with floor mats—as the cause of the unintended acceleration. A professor of automotive technology at Southern Illinois University testified before a congressional committee that he was able to show that a fault in the vehicles' electronic system caused the problem. Toyota denied the professor's claims and said it was confident there were no electronics problems in the vehicles.
