Sudden and unintentional acceleration in Toyota vehicles has been a major topic of concern. Millions of consumers who drive a Toyota are at risk. As a result, Toyota has issued two different recalls in an attempt to fix defects that could be causing the acceleration issues.
For example, in 2009, Toyota Motor Corporation issued the first of the recalls concerning several of their popular vehicles after a family died when their Lexus accelerated out of the driver’s control. The initial verdict, made by Toyota, was ill-fitting floor mats that impeded the proper function of the gas pedal. This recall affected the Lexus ES 350, Lexus IS 250/350 and Toyota models Camry, Highlander, Prius and Tacoma.
Toyota issued a second recall to address another issue that it believed was causing unintentional acceleration in some vehicles — sticky gas pedals. This recall involved popular Toyota vehicles including some models of the Sequoia, RAV4 and Tundra. The recalls, combined, involved some 8 millions vehicles worldwide.
Despite the efforts to resolve the acceleration issue, some say the problem may still be of concern. These people argue there could be a defect in the electronic throttle systems. Toyota denies such allegations, but investigations continue. No matter what the cause, sudden acceleration is a major problem that can result in severe injuries and even death.
If you or someone you care about has been victimized by uncontrolled acceleration in a Toyota, you may be able to recover financial relief.
