The Toyota recalls have affected many lives and families. Over 7 million vehicles have been recalled due to faulty floor mats and sticky accelerator pedals. Over the period from the end of 2009 to the beginning of 2010, two separate recalls were issued by the company in an effort to resolve an acceleration problem in some of the popular vehicles.
The recalls include certain years of the Avalon, Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Highlander, Matrix, Prius, Tacoma and Tundra. It has even been extended to a few Lexus and Pontiac models as well. Consumer confidence has been shaken since the recalls, shattering the safe image that the company has carefully crafted over the decades.
People have claimed their vehicles have accelerated uncontrollably while driving; some fatal accidents allege sudden unintended acceleration. Injuries and deaths have prompted the US government and associated agencies to investigate what happened. Toyota has also launched its own investigation into the incident.
