A U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory panel suggests tougher tanning bed regulations. The recommendation came about in a March 25, 2010 FDA hearing in which an advisory board discussed the relationship between tanning beds and an increased risk of skin cancer.
CNN reports that the advisory committee was made aware of the dangers associated with tanning beds, particularly among young people. Experts addressed their concerns in the hearing, arguing that indoor tanning devices may contribute to an increase in the number of skin cancer diagnoses among people under the age of 18.
