The class action lawsuit alleges Wal-Mart provides men and women unequal employment opportunities. The women say they have been promoted less often and given fewer opportunities than male employees. The class action lawsuit against Wal-Mart includes females that work in the Wal-Mart discount stores, super centers, neighborhood stores and Sam’s Club.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recently disagree with the retail giant, and ruled that the sexual discrimination class action suit against Wal-Mart can go to trial. This will be the largest civil rights action suit in U.S. history.
According to reports, six women who worked for Wal-Mart will represent every woman who has ever worked at a Wal-Mart store. This will include more than 1.5 million women. Not every woman will be eligible to collect compensation should the class win.
According to the class action lawsuit, women employees have been discriminated against based on their gender. Specifically, the suit states female employees:
The plaintiffs seek an unspecified amount of compensation to cover punitive damages and loss pay.
In addition to sex discrimination, Wal-Mart faces lawsuits dealing with other forms of discrimination as well. In fact, the New York Times reported that a group of ten West African men filed a complaint against Wal-Mart. The men reportedly said they had been fired because Wal-Mart wanted to free up their jobs for local people in need of work.
