Risperdal was approved to help with symptoms of schizophrenia and it was believed that few adverse effects were associated to the drug, in addition to little risk of Risperdal and death. The recent April 2003 Johnson & Johnson Risperdal announcement warned of the possible increased risk of suffering Risperdal stroke or stroke-like event, increasing the likelihood of suffering Risperdal and death as well. J&J issued a similar warning in Canada in October 2002 and cited 16 Risperdal and death reports, in addition to the 37 stroke or stroke-like events.
Although Risperdal and death has not been reported on a frequent basis, the side effects are very serious and increase the possibility of Risperdal and death. The warning of strokes suffered amongst elderly Risperdal patients included blood clots and hemorrhages and elderly patients are already at an increased risk of Risperdal and death. Risperdal is a very strong and powerful drug that has been used to treat symptoms other than schizophrenia, which increased the risk of Risperdal and death events. The antipsychotic drug should not be used until the patient has been adequately checked to evaluate if risk of suffering Risperdal and death is outweighed by the benefits it could provide.
