After studies showed a strong connection between metoclopramide and tardive dyskinesia, the FDA ordered that a black box warning accompany the other pertinent information on the Reglan label. The FDA's black box warning is the most serious warning issued by the agency.

Though the FDA requires this serious warning on the labels, the manufacturer of Reglan has not issued a recall on the drug. Instead, they strenuously defend the drug’s effectiveness and safety in adults, in small doses, and when taken over a short period of time.
