Generic Prevacid®: Lansoprazole

Prevacid® belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPI). PPIs are used to treat and prevent acid build up in the stomach. The generic form of Prevacid® is lansoprazole. It can be sold as an over-the-counter pharmaceutical, also known as OTC Prevacid®.

Lansoprazole is used to treat digestive track problems such as heartburn and acid reflux. It may also be used in varying dosages to treat the erosion of the esophagus due to stomach acid build up or reflux, and in the treatment of stomach and intestinal ulcers that can build up in a patient's digestive track.
