Have you experienced a bone fracture while taking Prevacid® to treat heartburn? If so, contact our Prevacid® lawyers to find out if you are eligible to recover compensation for your injury and suffering.

Prevacid®, along with other medications in its class, have been linked to a number of side effects. The majority of the side effects are not permanent and will likely not cause long-term damage. However, it has come out that Prevacid® and other proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), designed to treat heartburn, may increase a patient’s risk of hip, wrist and spine fractures when used for several years.

Bone fractures are serious injuries that can result in permanent damage, along with chronic pain and expensive medical bills. Our Prevacid® attorneys fight for people who have sustained a bone fracture they believe could be linked to a medication. To find out more information, contact us today. You can fill out the contact form to the right and someone from our law office will be in touch with you shortly.

The Process

When you contact a Prevacid® lawyer, we will evaluate your specific circumstances, as not every case is the same. We will determine whether we believe your case is valid. If so, we will fight aggressively to obtain a fair settlement or verdict that will cover your expenses and help ease the stress of the situation while you recover.

FDA Prevacid® Fracture Warning

In May 2010, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it would require a stronger warning on the labeling of Prevacid® and other PPIs, both sold over the counter and in the prescription form. The label would reflect a warning of the potential risk of fractures.

The medications are used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stomach ulcers and other similar disorders. The following are prescription medications in the same class that may possibly increase a risk of hip, spine or wrist fractures:

  • Prevacid®
  • Prilosec®
  • Nexium®
  • Dexilant®
  • Zegerid®
  • Protonix®
  • Aciphex®
  • Vimovo®

Prilosec OTC, Zegerid OTC and Prevacid 24HR are sold over the counter and intended for the treatment of heartburn.

If you’ve suffered a fracture and have a history of taking Prevacid® or another PPI, you should consult with an attorney as soon as possible. Most patients don’t realize the connection between their heartburn drug and injury. You may be entitled to compensation.
