drug_recall plavixStudies have shown that Plavix, a popular heart medication, causes potentially fatal hemorrhaging, including severe gastrointestinal bleeding. Because of the significantly increased risk of an adverse gastrointestinal event, Plavix is not recommended for use in patients with a previous history of peptic ulcer disease or gastrointestinal bleeding.
If you have suffered Plavix gastrointestinal bleeding, you may be entitled to seek compensation through a Plavix lawsuit. Please contact us to speak with a qualified attorney who can answer your questions and help you determine your best course of action.
Plavix, Bleeding, and Peptic Ulcer Disease
For several years, cardiologists have been prescribing Plavix to patients who had previously suffered a heart attack or stroke as well as to those with high risk factors for heart disease. However, when co-administered with aspirin to patients who had not already experienced a heart attack or stroke, Plavix was found to offer NO BENEFIT.
Worse still, one study showed an alarming 22 percent incidence of Plavix gastrointestinal bleeding among patients with a previous history of peptic ulcers or similar conditions compared with zero percent without such a history.
Unfortunately, the drug companies Sanofi-Aventis and Bristol-Myers Squibb did not sufficiently warn patients of the risk of potentially fatal Plavix gastrointestinal bleeding. In fact, the initial warning label on the drug in 2002 made no mention of this dangerous complication.
Plavix Bleeding and Other Plavix Side Effects
In addition to severe hemorrhaging, other Plavix side effects include:
Plavix gastrointestinal bleeding and other adverse side effects can have potentially life-threatening consequences. If you have taken or are currently taking Plavix, you may wish to consult with your physician to discuss possible alternatives especially if you have increased risk factors, such as recent trauma or surgery, or a prior history of peptic ulcer disease.
