“USDOT, Truckers to Combat Low Safety Belt Use; New Survey
Shows Less than Half of Truckers Buckle Up”
According to a new national study released by the Secretary, just 48% of
all commercial vehicle drivers wear safety belts. There are over 5.5 million
truck drivers on the roads and when involved in an accident, the failure
to wear a seat belt can end up hurting the other vehicle(s) involved and
results in a high number of preventive ejections and deaths.
Especially because of the magnitude of trucks on the road in comparison with automobiles and the inability to quickly react, simply buckling up may be able to stress road safety and reduce auto accidents. The new partnership with the Transportation Department, drivers, trucking companies, and law enforcement is the largest ever effort to educate truck drivers on the importance of safety belts. http://www.dot.gov/affairs/fmcsa2503.htm
“Changes in Traffic Control Devices to Help Older Drivers,
Pedestrians, Bicyclists, Workers”
New standards and guidance for traffic control devices are being implemented
to increase safety, especially for older drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists,
and construction workers. Auto accidents often involve more than the vehicles
directly involved in the accident and can injure anything that gets in the
way, such as pedestrians.
