As with any form of birth control, the NuvaRing has been linked to several side effects including spotting and mid-cycle bleeding.

Spotting While Using the NuvaRing

One of the potential side effects of NuvaRing use is mid-cycle bleeding. In most cases, spotting between periods will be minimal and should decrease overtime. However, in some cases, women who are using the NuvaRing as a form of contraceptive will experience bleeding for no apparent reason and at random times.

If you are a Nuvaring user and you begin to experience severe vaginal bleeding between periods, you should seek medical attention from your doctor. Although light vaginal spotting is common, severe bleeding may be a symptom of another serious medical condition.

How Does the Nuvaring Work?

The NuvaRing is a flexible ring that is inserted into the vagina for three weeks at a time. The muscles in the vaginal walls hold the ring in place. By slowly releasing a combination of estrogen and progestin, the ring is 99 percent effective at preventing pregnancy.
