"Antidepressants May Pose too Much Risk for Children and Teenagers"
The FDA has begun series of public hearings in order to determine if SSRI antidepressants like Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft are safe for children and teenagers. The lucrative $12 billion a year industry has been controversial amongst children and teenagers. Over 1 million Americans under 18 use antidepressants, with SSRIs being the fastest growing segment of the pharmaceutical industry.
Britain has already banned the use of all antidepressants by children except for Prozac, which has shown evidence of having more benefits than harm according to their studies. Paxil lawsuits, Zoloft lawsuits, and other SSRI related lawsuits have been filed because of the allegations that the new class of antidepressant can cause increased risk of suicide amongst children and adolescents.
