The Wyoming House and Senate passed mirror bills that propose a constitutional amendment that could limit noneconomic damages in Wyoming medical malpractice lawsuits. Other states have passed similar medical malpractice lawsuits caps on noneconomic damages, which has been labeled as an "easy way out" by consumer groups that think insurers and doctors are avoiding responsibility for their roles in the medical malpractice "crisis" situations.
The Wyoming proposed amendment will need to first get the necessary two thirds majorities in both houses, the governor''s signatures, and a majority of those casting ballots in the November election in order for the pain and suffering medical malpractice caps to exist.
