According to recent reports, dozens of nursing homes in Wisconsin have been cited for failing to properly care for their residents since 2005.
The negligence at these homes was slowly discovered after more and more people were found with bruises, pressure ulcers and broken bones at homes across the state.
Although none of the nursing home abuse reports directly linked the increase in deaths of residents at the homes, in hundreds of cases it is evident that the inadequate care didn’t help.
A lack of supervision is one of the main problems that are thought to contribute to the rising number of injuries.
Over the past three and a half years records have shown an overall increase in nursing home violations.
Health care violations reportedly spiked 34 percent in recent years and dozens of homes have been cited for serious bodily harm.
In most cases, the families of those living in these nursing homes have been kept in the dark about the ongoing issues.
Many family members claim they have found out about the serious lack of positive treatment at homes where their loved ones are from new sources.
“How is it possible that the state of Wisconsin can investigate a facility, impose the most severe citations based on the lack of proper care and not be required to notify the family?” asks Mary Chase, a concerned family member.
