An interstate highway onramp was closed in Washington state after a semi-truck accident that allegedly occurred because the driver was drunk.
The driver, who was not identified, was turning left onto the eastbound lane of Interstate 82 in Selah, Washington, in his 2000 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, according the Yakima Herald. During the turn, the truck hit a guardrail near Exit 30.
The truck accident caused the freeway on ramp to be closed for more than two hours, according to the Washington state patrol.
Nobody was injured during the accident, which occurred when the driver became lost and tried to make a U-turn, Lieutenant Jim Keightley told the news source. There was no damage to the truck but the trailer will need about $700 in repairs.
Police are hoping to pursue DUI charges for the driver, according to Keightley.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 225 alcohol-related traffic fatalities in Washington during 2008 and there were 521 total deaths on state roadways during that year.
