A recent vision loss scare has shaken the world of erectile dysfunction sufferers. Some men have been experiencing non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) within 36 hours after ingesting sildenafil citrate, known to the public as Viagra.
NAION is a vision disorder resulting in vision loss, and is sometimes described as “stroke of the eye." Viagra is taken by men for erectile dysfunction, and some men have recently reported vision loss which has been diagnosed as NAION.
Patients have experienced vision loss within 24 hours after ingesting Viagra. The Viagra patients affected by NAION had pre-existing hypertension, diabetes, elevated cholesterol or hyperlipidemia.
Doctors have been previously aware that some men who take Viagra will experience temporary color changes in their vision and see things as blue or green. However, NAION is a much more serious condition because it can lead to permanent vision loss.
