The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission alongside Robertshaw Controls Company, a California based manufacturer, has announced a voluntary recall on the Robertshaw TS-11 Thermal Safety Control Gas Valve and the “magnet head” on the gas valve. There are 123,544 gas valves affected and 37,350 magnet heads.
If the pilot light goes out, the gas valve can stick in an open position, which can allow the gas to continue to flow. A gas explosion and fire could result, causing severe personal injury or property damage. So far, the company has received 12 reports of flash fires, including nine reports of first, second and one instance of third degree burns.
The California manufacturer will arrange for free repair or replacement of the recalled gas valves. If the smell of gas is detected, consumers are cautioned to immediately vacate the area and call the gas company or certified gas technician to avoid risk of personal injury.
