Ronald Stearney Jr., the attorney for the parents of a 6-year-old boy who was killed after a plane ran off the runway and into his parent''s car, is asking the general public for their assistance in the ongoing investigation. Stearney is compiling witness testimony from passengers who were on the flight and from anyone who witnessed the accident on the freeway or anywhere nearby.
The incident occurred at Midway Airport last Thursday evening when a Southwest Airlines flight landed and ran off of the runway in a snowstorm, crashing through a protective barrier and onto traffic near 55th Street and Central Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.
Autopsy results showed that 6-year-old Joshua Woods died as a direct result of the crash. Pilots and crewmembers onboard the plane have testified to investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board that the plane''s thrusters were not operating in the capacity that they should have. The Board is examining the plane in a separate hanger, including several controls and features on the Boeing 737 that may have proved faulty in the incident.
The boy''s parents and his two brothers were all injured in the crash but are all expected to recover. The lawyer for the parents has not filed any lawsuit yet, though one may be filed in the future. As for now, investigations continue.
