A woman living in Illinois filed a lawsuit against Glen-Ed Soccer Club and a volunteer coach on behalf of her daughter who was allegedly inured by an ineligible player.
Kristen McCarthy claims that her daughter, Alexis, was injured by a member of an opposing team who should not have been allowed to play because of her age. Alexis, who was playing for an 11-under team in an indoor soccer league, was injured by an opponent from a 12-under team during a game, Nov. 26, 2007.
After Alexis was treated for an arm injury, McCarthy discovered that the player responsible for Alexis’ injury is 15-years-old, making her ineligible to play for the 12-under team. McCarthy is suing the coach, Christopher Tracy, for allowing a 15-year-old to play on the league.
The lawsuit claims that Tracy "negligently concealed the fact that he was allowing an ineligible player to play on his team from the coach, parents and players from the opposing team.”
The lawsuit also names Glen-Ed Soccer Club as a defendant for failing to properly train Tracy and for not enforcing the age limit rules. McCarthy claims that both Tracy and Glen-Ed Soccer Club’s negligence were factors in Alexis’ injury. She claims that there are age limits for a reason and a 15-year-old girl should not have been allowed to play against a team of 11-year-olds.
McCarthy seeks compensation for her daughter’s injury. She is suing for $150,000 plus the cost of the lawsuit.
