Another fentanyl patch recall was issued on Monday over a defect that could cause the patches to leak. This is the second recall issued for the prescription patches in the past week.
Fentanyl is an extremely potent painkiller. Direct contact with the fentanyl gel could result in respiratory problems and potential overdose.
Recalled Patches
The recalled patches are made by Actavis South Atlantic LLC, but some of the patches may be labeled with the company’s previous name, Abrika Pharmaceuticals Inc. The patches recalled last week were sold by PriCara, a division of Johnson & Johnson.
Included in yesterday’s recall are all 25-, 50-, 75-, and 100-microgram-per-hour patches that expire between May and August 2009.
Patients or caregivers who inadvertently come into contact with the gel because of a damaged patch should rinse their hands immediately and thoroughly with water. Soap should not be used.
