Gay-rights activists and their lawyers are suing the state of Oregon over a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage. The amendment, added last year, nullified about 3,000 same sex marriages that took place in April of 2005 after the state began experimenting with legal gay marriages.
The Supreme Court of Oregon eventually took sides with anti-same sex marriage groups and banned the practice.
The lawsuit alleges that the amendment violates certain constitutional rights guaranteed to all Americans.
