The maker of the acne product Accutane has settled a lawsuit alleging that the drug caused one patient to develop a bowel disease.
Accutane is made by pharmaceutical giant Roche and is supposed to reduce the amount of oil released by glands in the skin. However, one acne sufferer, Jason Peipert, found out that Accutane can do more than just clear up one's skin, according to One News Page.
Peipert reportedly suffered from bowel inflammation caused by Accutane. He and Roche reached an undisclosed settlement to end the lawsuit recently, which involves the dropping of all charges against Roche.
This was just the latest case for Roche regarding the drug Accutane. According to some sources, the pharmaceutical company is facing nearly 1,000 lawsuits, claiming that Roche failed to adequately warn patients about the potential side effects of Accutane.
Roche has lost the last six court cases involving the drug, which is supposed to fight acne. The drug maker has reportedly paid out $56 million to users of Accutane who suffered unwanted side effects from the drug.
