"Female Prisoners Awarded $160K"
In the latest development in Iowa’s growing convict abuse charges, three female convicts claiming that they had been sexually abused by a prison guard while incarcerated have been awarded $160,000 in damages.
The prison guard, Kenneth Parrot, who worked at the Mount Pleasant correctional facility in Mount Pleasant, will pay out the award along with Iowa taxpayers. Parrot had a history of abusing female prisoners and had threatened them repeatedly and also masturbated in front of them. His actions taken together constituted some discriminatory form of sexual assault.
Unfortunately, such cases are on the rise, particularly in Iowa where the female prison population is growing at a rapid rate. One prison located in Mitchellville had grown from less than 100 to over 580 in just a little over 10 years. Women inmates in Iowa currently number 768 of a total prison population of 8,525.
There are currently two other lawsuits awaiting judgment against another Mount Pleasant prison guard, also for sexual misconduct.
