The children of a Louisiana man who died after a small plane crashed into his mobile home filed a wrongful death lawsuit on Friday against the owner of the plane and the pilot's estate.
According to the complaint, Lucien Broussard, 73, suffered third degree burns on his upper body as a result of the crash. He survived long enough to call 911, but died soon thereafter “in excruciating and unimaginable pain.”
His children, Kevin Broussard and Sheila Broussard Legnon, claim that the pilot of the plane, Farrell Skelton, who also died in the crash, was negligent and that he tried to land in poor conditions without full knowledge of his aircraft's position.
Last year, the National Transportation Safety Board issued a preliminary report attributing the crash to an aborted landing attempt at Le Maire Memorial Airport. The agency has not yet issued a final report.
Legnon, who arrived at the scene of the accident, claims that she has suffered “serious emotional distress well beyond simple pain and anguish.” The lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages.
