Lawsuits against Carrier IQ (CIQ), HTC America and Samsung are stacking up, claiming that the defendant companies unlawfully intercepted and collected personal messages from millions of private mobile phones, handsets and smartphones.
So far, three different class action lawsuits have been filed against the companies, alleging that the companies violated U.S. wiretap laws, specifically the Federal Wiretap Act. The first illegal wiretapping lawsuit was filed on Dec. 2 on behalf of an Illinois resident who is a Sprint subscriber. According to the suit, the plaintiff was unaware that the CIQ was intercepting and collecting private data without her permission.
According to the complaints, Carrier IQ, which captures and records every keystroke entered into the phone, has been secretly installed in more than 130 million devices worldwide. The software also tracks location and other data.
Anyone who has an HTC or Samsung phone with Carrier Q10 installed on it might be eligible to file a claim. If you have an HTC or Samsung phone and your carrier us ATT or Sprint, contact us for more information. Our illegal wiretapping lawyers are investigating these claims and may be able to help you.
