A White Haven, PA, woman has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against a doctor in the death of her son. The suit alleges that the doctor over-prescribed a series of drugs to her son that resulted in the young man’s death.
Timothy Forschner died on November 15, 2003 from cardio-respiratory failure brought on by drug overdose. Mr. Forschner had been in a car accident and sought medical attention for his pain. His doctor, Harry Alexanderian, prescribed Valium, Vicodin, Darvocet, Darvon, Ampicillin, Motrin, Buspar and Soma Tabs. The doctor allowed for repeated refills of the medication.
The medicine was prescribed even though Mr. Forschner’s MRI showed nothing abnormal. Dr. Alexanderian saw the young man 20 times over a period of a little more than a year. Despite frequent visits to the doctor and behavior that suggested a drug dependency, Dr. Alexanderian kept prescribing the highly addictive drugs to Mr. Forschner.
Dr. Alexanderian was sentenced to two years probation and six months house arrest in July of this year. The sentence stemmed from his guilty plea in 16 charges of illegal prescriptions. The wrongful death lawsuit in the case of Mr. Forschner will come on top of Dr. Alexanderian’s other legal problems.
