Twelve employees of a nursing home in Northern San Diego County were arrested for elder abuse and neglect on January 8, according to local news reports.
The indictment, issued by the Attorney General''s Office, addresses a complaint involving the treatment of a single patient in October of 2003. The woman was a resident at the Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Facility in Escondido. The twelve persons arrested this week were responsible for her care and face a felony charge that claims they "willfully. placed the patient in a situation in which her health was endangered." Ten of the twelve accused also face charges of altering the patient''s medical records.
The facility stated it is cooperating with the investigation, and many residents and relatives of residents expressed surprise at the charges.
Lynne Geise, whose mother is a resident was concerned, "It''s disturbing to hear what happened. All in all, we believed they were getting good treatment."
