A former Indianapolis, IN Catholic priest was sued on Tuesday by two former alter boys who say the man molested them in the 1970s. The priest was relieved of his duties in 1984 after other reported allegations of molestation occurred then. The lawsuit was filed against the priest and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis. The molestation suit was filed in addition to two other lawsuits that were filed in September.
All four men remain anonymous as part of their lawsuit but all four allege that the Rev. Harry Monroe molested them while they worked as altar boys. The men’s lawyer, Patrick Noaker of Minnesota, says that his clients were members of the St. Catherine parish from 1976 to 1978.
The lawsuits claim that Monroe gave the boys alcohol and molested them in his living quarters and also at a campground in the Turkey Run State Park.
Monroe, now living in Nashville, TN served at three different parishes between 1975 and 1976: St. Monica, St. Andrew the Apostle, and St. Catherine. In 1979 he was transferred to St. Patrick in Terre Haute and then served at three different parishes in 1982.
The suit claims that the molestation allegations occurred long before Monroe was transferred to the different parishes. The archdiocese of Indianapolis is facing 12 lawsuits total which all allege sexual molestation at the hands of their priests.
