United States Attorney General Michael J. Sullivan announced today a major reorganization of the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney''s Office, marking the first major reorganization of the mechanism of federal criminal law enforcement in the District of Massachusetts in several years.
The reorganization is effective January 31, 2005. According to Sullivan, “While the human factors that cause crime have changed little over time, the mechanisms of crime have changed dramatically over the past two decades.” Changes will better enforce the federal criminal laws and build upon changes made in 2001 in creating the Anti-Terrorism and National Security Unit, the Health Care Fraud Unit and the Community Prosecutions Unit, according to Sullivan.
To have effective federal criminal law enforcement, Sullivan believes constant innovation is necessary, which the new organizational structure will be able to better equip the Criminal Division to fulfill.
