A medical malpractice lawsuit was recently filed against Lifeteam EMS, Inc. by the parents of a boy who died while being transported between hospitals.
The boy’s life was cut short when he was taken from East Liverpool City Hospital to the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh by the ambulance company.
Anna Lybert and Robert McGaffic Jr.’s son, Erik, was reportedly two years old when he was brought to the East Liverpool emergency room due to a shortness of breath and inability to sleep.
Emergency crews from East Liverpool chose to sedate and paralyze Erik while transporting him to the hospital in Pittsburgh.
Lifeteam was reportedly told to administer more sedation medication if he began to move at all and when he did, the staff didn’t act in time and instead removed the air tube.
As a result, the boy went into cardiac arrest, was pronounced brain dead and two days later died at the Children’s Hospital.
Erik’s parents filed the suit claiming Lifeteam had acted with negligence and caused their son to first experience pain and suffering before wrongfully dying.
The plaintiffs are seeking damages for their loss of services, comfort and companionship and expenses for medical care and the boy’s funeral.
