The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the paint on the buttons of about 6,700 denim jumper sets contain excessive lead levels, posing a lead poisoning hazard to children.
HIS International is recalling the 6,700 denim jumper sets that were sold in three different styles and made with 100 percent cotton. Sold exclusively at Kmart stores nationwide from July 2004 to November 2004 for about $13, consumers are instructed to return the jumper set to Kmart for a refund or replacement.
Lead poisoning occurs much more frequently in children than among adults. The hazards of lead have affected tens of millions of children, and at least 400,000 children under the age of six have been estimated to have too much lead in their blood.
