The Chubinski family of Illinois reached a settlement in their suit against Manorcare at South Holland Nursing Home regarding the death of their elderly family member.
Suit Begins Because of Elderly Abuse
Lottie Chubinski, 86, was brought to the nursing home in June and stayed there until September due to an injury from a fall at her home.
During this time her family claims she was neglected, became malnourished, dehydrated and developed bedsores that eventually became infected causing her death in November of that year.
The family’s attorney’s, Steven Levin and Michael Bonamarte IV claim that the sores were so bad that they affected her bones and blood disabling her from walking.
Cause of Neglect
Levin calls this case a “classic example of institutional neglect” and blames the nursing home for being understaffed and not training their employees.
The Chubinski family is relieved that the case has finally been put to rest, though nothing can replace their loss or the suffering that Lottie endured.
Manocare’s attorney confirmed the settlement on Tuesday but declined to comment further on the case or the nursing facility.
