A New Iberia Senior High School student died after sustaining traumatic brain injuries. Brandon Mann, a 15-year-old sophomore, was walking across the street to get to his bus stop when he was hit by a car. He was rushed to Lafayette General Medical Center where he died.
The driver of the car was identified as a teacher at Anderson Middle School. The cause of death was deemed as accidental and so far, no charges have been filed.
Mann’s death has sparked conversations among school officials on how to enforce year-round school bus safety. According to Iberia Parish School Superintendent, Dale Henderson, the accident reinforces the need for safety awareness among students, teachers and parents.
