A woman, who suffered nearly fatal head injuries in an automobile accident has given birth to a healthy baby in Peru, Indiana. Stacey B. Hanes, age 24, was involved in a traumatic car accident in June of 2005, leaving the childbearing woman incapacitated with life-altering injuries.
Hanes'' car collided with a truck in a tragic accident that occurred in Peru, Indiana, on June 22. Due to the severity of Stacey''s head injuries, her doctor''s decided to put her in to a drug-induced coma.
During the birthing process, the mother was given anesthesia because of a tracheotomy that prevented her from lying on her back. Hanes endured serious complications during the birth of son Nathan Richard Hanes which sent her to the intensive care unit in critical condition with fluid filled lungs and severe heart problems.
In an interview, Stacey''s father Rod said that she is making steady progress to recovery and should be released from the hospital soon. “She''s got a long way to go, but at least she''ll be out with her baby,” Rod commented.
Nathan Richard Hanes is reportedly a very healthy and happy baby. According to the baby''s grandparents, the name “Nathan” was chosen because it means, “gift from God”.
