The owners of approximately 4.6 million Ford vehicles have been urged to bring their vehicles to dealerships to fix a cruise control problem that has been linked to hundreds of engine fires and three deaths.
Concerns about Remaining Vehicles
Since 1999, more than 9 million Ford vans, trucks, sport utility vehicles and passenger cars have been recalled over the faulty cruise control switch systems. Only about 5 million vehicles have been brought in to dealerships to have the problem fixed.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued the consumer advisory on Thursday, stating that it had received about 60 complaints of Ford engine fires in the last six months.

For consumer convenience, some dealerships have offered to fix the problem as a “drive through” service. This will prevent owners from having to schedule an appointment or leave their vehicles at the dealership.
Lawsuits Filed
Ford is currently facing over 100 lawsuits over engine fires linked to faulty cruise control switches. A number of Ford owners claim that the fires started when the engine was off.
