Tampa Bay resident Timothy Baker, 32, was arrested Sept. 16 after breaking into a Hillsborough boat shop and attempting to steal a $100,000 boat and trailer. According to the reports, Baker was under the influence of alcohol and had cocaine in his possession at the time of the arrest.
According to police reports, Baker broke into the boat shop by cutting the chain on the front gate and attempted to drive away with the boat and trailer.
Baker didn’t make it far from the shop when he was spotted by a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Deputy. According to the report, Baker tried to outrun the deputy when he flashed his lights and turned on the siren signaling him to stop.
Baker reportedly lost control of the vehicle and ended up crashing into a ditch as he tried to make a sharp turn to get away from the deputy. After crashing, Baker tried to flee the scene on foot and was eventually detained by police.
Baker was arrested on the spot and is facing several criminal charges, including: burglary, grand theft, possession of cocaine, driving under the influence of alcohol and damaging property.
Baker who refused to take a sobriety test is also being charged with refusing to submit to an alcohol test and driving with a suspended license. According to the reports, this is not the first time Baker has been in trouble with the law, and is therefore facing additional charges for “being a habitual traffic offender.”
Baker is being held in Orient Road Jail in lieu of $32,250 bail.
