"Missouri Teacher gets $326,000 in Medical Malpractice Suit"

Sheri Milburn, of Neosho, Missouri, was awarded $326,000 in damages stemming from a faulty diagnosis and treatment. The facility, Freeman Health Systems of Missouri, was found to be at fault in diagnosing and treating the former schoolteacher’s appendicitis attack in November of 2001.

The medical malpractice suit also named the doctor in the case, Dr. Robert Betz. Both Dr. Betz and the Freeman Health Systems facility were found to have insufficiently treated the woman’s acute attack.

The malpractice trial lasted only four days. The award included $163,000 in economic restitution and $163,000 for other damages.
