A fatal trucking accident in Wallingford, CT has led to the arrest of construction company owner, Joseph Spezzano, and driver Michael Sandacata on charges of second-degree manslaughter. The truck, driven by Sandacata, allegedly had serious brake problems that were known by MLS Construction''s company owner and the driver prior to the time of the accident.
The faulty vehicle failed to stop at the bottom of a hill causing a major collision, that claimed the life of 69-year-old Oleen T. Wilson and severely injured his daughter and granddaughter.
State police have issued a statement commenting, “Joseph Spezzano and Michael Sandacata were both aware and consciously disregarded a substantial and unjustifiable risk.”
Spezzano and Sandacata were both charged with second-degree manslaughter and second-degree assault. Spezzano was also charged with 41 motor vehicle direct violations of which contributed to the critical accident. He has posted a $350,000 bond.
The driver was also charged with reckless driving and failure to properly inspect the vehicle before his trip. Both men are scheduled for indictment on February 10 th .
The construction company, MLS Construction has officially changed its name to Rock LLC. The company has been identified as one of 25 motor carrier companies with the worst safety record in the state.
