"Lawsuit Filed in Disneyland Crash"
A family from Colorado has sued the Walt Disney World Co. yesterday for injuries they suffered while riding on the California Disneyland amusement park''s roller coaster Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in 2004.
The personal injury suit was filed on behalf of parents Gerald and Norika Cope of Telluride and their two children, a daughter aged 8 and their son aged 6, by a Santa Ana based lawyer, Christopher R. Aitken.
The particular incident occurred just a couple of months after the ride reopened following a deadly accident that resulted in the death of one passenger. The Cope''s accident occurred on July 8, 2004 when the train the Copes were riding on hit another train as the first one entered into the loading station area.
Investigators from California said the accident was caused by a number of factors including a software malfunction and an inexperienced ride operator . According to the suit, Mr. Cope had a major back injury that resulted in necessary surgery because of the accident. Mr. Cope was also unable to work for many months and as a result had to sell his business .
The other members of the Cope family also suffered from serious bruising, mental pain, and emotional stress and tension.
