"Over 1 Million Child Car Seats Recalled"
Evenflo has recalled about one million defective child car seats after government testing showed they could fail to protect children during side-impact collisions.
Recalled Models
The models affected by the recall include Evenflo Discovery models:
- 390
- 391
- 534
- 552
Serial numbers are located on a white label under the seat. Recalled models were made between April 2005 and January 2008.
Testing Reveals Flaw
The recalled car seats consist of two separate parts: a base that connects to the seat of the vehicle and the safety seat, which detaches from the base and can be removed from the vehicle.
According to tests conducted by Evenflo and the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the safety seat may separate from the base during a side-impact crash.
Consumers Should Contact Evenflo
Owners of a recalled Discovery child seat should contact Evenflo (1-800-358-2229) to obtain a special part that will fasten the seat to the base. In the meantime, consumers should discontinue use of the recalled seats.
